Get up to speed with customs matters

Keen to have a better understanding of customs procedures for importing or exporting goods, including those for temporary imports and strategic goods? Or perhaps your job requires you to be familiar with warehousing regimes, rules of origin or supply chain security? Then the recently launched Customs Competency Programme for Businesses is just the course to meet your needs.

Learn more about customs procedures for importing and exporting goods from a new training course developed by Singapore Customs.
The inaugural run of the Customs Competency Programme for Businesses was conducted from 27 to 28 February 2008.

Developed to enhance the competency of businesses in handling customs matters, the course is suitable for participants who are responsible for the customs operations of their companies, including operational staff who handle customs transactions on a daily basis, as well as management staff overseeing supply chain and logistic matters.

This new programme is delivered entirely by senior Singapore Customs officers who are specialists in their respective areas. It is managed by the Container Deport Association (Singapore) and supported by SPRING Singapore under the Local Enterprise and Association Development programme.

Funding support for the course fees is also available to eligible participants from the Workforce Development Agency under the Small and Medium-sized Enterprise (SME) Training for Enhanced Performance and Upgrade (Step-UP) scheme.

The programme is structured into two parts to cover basic and advanced topics:
Part I provides an overview of customs procedures relating to the import and export of goods, including the classification and valuation of goods, preparation of TradeNet® declarations and import of dutiable goods.
Part II covers wide-ranging topics including the temporary import of goods, manifest procedures, rules of origin, warehousing regimes, strategic good control, supply chain security, customs laws and international customs matters.

Participants may choose to attend one or both parts, depending on their needs.
