Look smart! Look sharp!

Singapore Customs officers stationed at the checkpoints got a new look when they donned new uniforms on 16 February 2009. Designed for smartness and comfort, the new uniform projects the professional enforcement image of the agency while conveying a friendlier, customer-oriented outlook.

The new uniform consists of a short-sleeved white shirt or blouse, with tie, shoulder flaps, epaulettes with rank insignia, belt, name tag and black shoes. It also comes with a smart, midnight blue outer jacket with collar pins and gold embossed buttons at the sleeves for more formal occasions, and matching pants or skirt.

The uniform was designed by Singapore Customs officers, reflecting their sense of professionalism and pride in the work they do. The jacket suit is made of 100 percent polyester, a cool and lightweight material that will keep officers warm in an air-conditioned working environment. The short-sleeved white shirt and blouse is made from a wrinkle-free mixture of polyester and cotton to maintain that smart, yet comfortable feel for officers working in outdoor conditions.

The new uniform can be seen on Singapore Customs officers stationed at the major air, land and sea checkpoints at Changi Airport, Woodlands, Tuas, Singapore Cruise Centre and Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal.

Higher Customs Superintendent Thomas Chiu, who is stationed at the Changi Budget Terminal, had this to say: “The new uniform looks very impressive and smart. It gives me a sense of authority when I am wearing it. It is also very comfortable. I like it!”

Echoing the same sentiment is Customs Officer Siti Masainah from Woodlands Checkpoint: “The new uniform gives the organisation a greater sense of identity. I feel proud wearing it.”
