Singapore Customs introduced an enhanced permit regime, known as the Strategic Trade Scheme (STS) on 18 Jun 07. The STS aims to encourage self-compliance and facilitate companies' dual-use trade by streamlining documentary procedures at the point of shipment.

Singapore Customs will work closely with the industry to encourage them to establish effective internal compliance programme such as procedures to classify and screen their products and customers/end-users, to keep proper records and to carry out internal audits.
