Anti-Contraband Cigarettes PublicityAs part of our efforts to raise public awareness of contraband cigarettes, Singapore Customs has embarked on an on-going advertising campaign using public transport advertisements to warn the general public about the severe penalties for those caught dealing in or smoking contraband cigarettes. Launched in December 2007, the second wave of publicity involved buses plying along Yew Tee, Geylang and Tampines.
Excellent Service Award 2007Kudos to our Checkpoint Services & Investigations Branch! On 7 November 2007, 33 officers from the Branch received the prestigious Excellent Service Award (EXSA).Launched in 1994, the national award recognises individuals who have delivered outstanding service. Recipients of the award serve as role models for service staff, are service champions and demonstrate professional services. Congratulations to all our winners!
National Day Awards 2007 Investiture The MOF National DayAwards Investiture was held on 6 November 2007. Minister for Education and Second Minister for Finance, Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who was the Guest of Honour, presented the awards. The event was held at the IRAS auditorium.
Singapore Customs Dinner and Dance 2007Singapore Customs held its annual Dinner and Dance 2007 on 3 November 2007 at the Meritus Mandarin Hotel. Minister of State for Finance and Transport Mrs Lim Hwee Hua was the Guest of Honour for the event. It was a night of good food, good fun and get-together for staff.
Launch of new TradeNet version 4.0 and TradeXchangeSingapore Customs launched the upgraded TradeNet version 4.0 and TradeXchange, both cutting-edge systems to enhance Singapore's competitiveness as a global trade hub. The national trade declaration system - TradeNet version 4.0 comes with new powerful features, and is now better customised to meet users' needs. TradeXchange is a netural platform for the exchange of trade and logistics information in the trade and logistics industry. Singapore-EU Joint Seminar on Supply Chain SecuritySingapore Customs and the European Commission jointly organised a seminar to raise industries' awareness on the recent initiatives launched by both Singapore and the European Union (EU). Held on 31 October 2007, the seminar also provided an overview and update on Singapore's Secure Trade Partnership (STP) Programme and the EU's Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Programme.
Awareness Briefings on Changes to Singapore's Strategic Goods (Control) SystemSingapore Customs commenced a series of awareness briefings on Singapore's Strategic Goods (Control) system in September 2007. Organised by the Trade Control Branch, the briefings aimed to familiarise traders with the announced changes to the Strategic Goods (Control) expansion list.
Singapore Trade Classification, Customs and Excise Duties Singapore Customs published the latest Singapore Trade Classification, Customs and Excise Duties 2007 (STCCED) 2007). The new STCCED 2007 is based on the ASEAN Harmonised Tariff Nomenclature, which is using the 8-digit HS codes. The STCCED 2007 is also available online at the Singapore Customs website.
First-ever case of Cigarette Smuggling Using CoffinsOn 9 August 2007, Singapore Customs successfully smashed a cigarette smuggling syndicate using coffins to conceal over 37,000 packets of duty-unpaid cigarettes. Three Singaporean men were arrested. This is the first-ever case of offenders using coffins in the commission of the offence. All three men were charged and sentenced to jail.
PS21 Star Service Award: Singapore Customs Honours Two of Our Staff10 July 2007Singapore Customs sparkles when two of our staff - SCO Mohamed Yunos Ismail and HCO Roswati Bte Mustadi, both from the Field Management Branch (FMB), received the prestigious PS21 Star Service Award from the hands of the Minister-in-Charge of Civil Service, Mr Teo Chee Hean, in a presentation ceremony on 10 July 2007. The PS21 Star Service Awards celebrates the service achievements of public servants.Congratulations to Roswati and Mohamed Yunos! We are proud of your achievements!
Singapore Customs Moves One Notch Up to 2nd Place in 2007 ACE Pro-Enterprise Ranking SurveySingapore Customs (SC) showed further improvements in pro-enterprise efforts. It has been ranked 2nd out of 24 government agencies in the 2007 Pro-Enterprise Survey commissioned by the Action Community for Entrepreneurship (ACE). This is so far the best score yet since the start of the annual survey in 2004 - SC was ranked 11th in 2004 and moved up to 3rd place consecutively in 2005 and 2006. This year, SC achieved a Pro-Enterprise Index of 86.7, an improvement over last year’s 82.8. The index score was also significantly higher than the average index of 73.3 for all the 24 agencies surveyed this year. Singapore Customs Launches Information Card for Arriving Travellers Singapore Customs embarked on a new initiative to better inform arriving travellers of customs regulations and procedures through a handy, pocket-sized Information Card. The I-Card, in short contains useful information on duty-free liquor concessions, Good & Services (GST) relief as well as items that are controlled or prohibited in Singapore. The I-Card helps to increase travellers' awareness of the tax concessions and reliefs they can enjoy, as well as restrictions on items that can be brought into the country, thereby contributing towards a smoother and more hassle-free experience for travellers to Singapore.Please click here for a copy of the I-card
