What are the educational requirements to join Singapore Customs? |

To be a Singapore Customs Specialist/ Management Executive Officer under the Graduates Schemes, you need to have a pass degree in any discipline from a recognized university. And to be a Singapore Customs Officer/Corporate Support Officer under the Non-Graduate Schemes, you must have at least 3 credits in GCE "N" Level in English or Mathematics. Do I need to fulfill any physical requirements to join the Customs service? |

No. There is no physical requirement. However, all successful applicants will have to undergo a medical examination for fitness to join the Customs service. |

What are the working hours like? |
| A |
When you join Singapore Customs under the uniformed schemes, you will be scheduled to perform any one of the 3 working hour patterns shown in the table depending on the branch and work areas you are posted to:

Will there be training provided? |

Yes. All new officers will who joined Singapore Customs as a Singapore Customs Specialist/Singapore Customs Officer will undergo a 5-day Basic Course for New Recruits which comprises of lecture sessions, and field visits. |

What type of training will I receive? |

The Training consists of lecture sessions and field attachments. The classroom sessions will provide the recruits with the fundamentals in work-related theoretical knowledge while the field attachments will offer them the opportunities for a practical experience in customs work. |

Do I need to pass any tests after the training? |

All newly recruited SOs and JOs are not required to pass any Probationary Customs Exams. |

Do I need to service any bond for the training I received? |

There is no bond period for the training received. |

Where will I be posted to after my basic training course? |

Upon completion of the Basic Course for New Recruits, you will be posted to either branches within the HQ, or the field stations of the Checkpoint Services & Investigation or Special Investigation Branches depending on the vacancies available as well as your aptitude and suitability. |

How frequent will my posting be? |

You will remain in your first posting for about a period of 2 years. Transfer to a new job function is subjected to availability or exigencies of service during the first 2 years. |

What is the rank and basic salary if I join the uniformed Customs Service as a Singapore Customs Specialist? |

You will join as Higher Singapore Customs Officer or Singapore Customs Officer depending on your educational qualification. Your entry salary will depend on your educational qualification as well. Promotion prospect is based on performance and potential demonstrated by the officer at work. |

What opportunities are present in Customs for future learning? |

There are specialized sponsored overseas courses for confirmed officers. Attendance at the courses will depend on its relevance to the officer's work as well as the officer's performance and potential. Officers are also encouraged to upgrade themselves through continuous education such as part-time courses which are of relevant to their work. |

What are the criteria for applying no-pay leave for studies? |

The course of study should be relevant to the Department. If the application is approved, officer can be granted 3 days no-pay leave per subject to prepare and sit for non-government sponsored studies. The maximum capping per year is 12 days. |
