
6 March 2008 Singapore Customs continues to weed our illegal transactions of duty-unpaid cigarettes at hotspot areas. This time, it was at Lorong 14 Geylang area. A total of 6 illegal sellers werearrested and 12 buyers were caught. Buyers were not spared, they were punished severely and can be fined up to $5,000 for the offence.

22 February 2008 Singapore Customs officers carried out a sting operation against buyers and sellers of duty-unpaid cigarettes in the Western, Eastern and Central parts of Singapore. A total of 8 sellers and 68 buyers were caught. Officers also seized more than 2,000 packets of cigarettes. Buyers can be fined up to $5,000 for the offence. |

22 January 2008 In a joint SC-ICA operation to nab runners of cigarette syndicates delivering duty-unpaid cigarettes into Singapore, officers caught 4 suspects (all foreigners) and foiled their illegal attempt. Two of the suspects attempted to run, but were unsuccessful. A total of 14,900 packets of duty-unpaid cigarettes were seized, evading about $11,500 in duty and GST.
In a separate case, a 19 year old man was arrested when he was found with 670 packets of duty-unpaid cigarettes concealed within a secret compartment in his car. |
