General Interpretative Rules (GIR)

The General Rules for the Interpretation of the Harmonized System, also known as the General Interpretative Rules (GIR), is a set of 6 rules for classifying goods.

The rules ensure uniform legal interpretation of the Harmonized System Nomenclature for the proper classification of goods. These rules must be applied in sequential order.
