Customs website bags merit award

The Singapore Customs website netted a merit award in the inaugural Singapore Government Web Excellence Awards 2009. Mr Fong Yong Kian, Singapore Customs Director-General received the award from Mr Zaqy Mohamed, Chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee, Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts, at an awards ceremony on 1 June 2010.

Web Excellence Awards is part of the governmentís Web Transformation Strategy to ensure that government websites are updated, relevant and easy to use, all the time and anytime, to meet citizensí and businessesí evolving needs and expectations, facilitating excellent service delivery.

Singapore Customsí website was one of 10 winning websites to have emerged from a total of 66 website entries submitted by 39 government agencies in this website competition for government agencies. The Web Excellence Awards seeks to recognise government agencies which have achieved high standards for their websites in terms of user-friendliness, content presentation, overall website management and the effective delivery of electronic services.

The website entries were put through three stages of assessment, namely internal objective assessment, expert panel assessment and public voting. The public voting phase, which formed a key scoring component, garnered a total of 26,000 votes from members of the public for their favourite agency websites.
