If you drive a Singapore-registered vehicle out of the country, your fuel tank must be at least three-quarters full.

Who It Applies To

This rule applies to all Singapore-registered vehicles leaving Singapore by land, including those running on:

  • Petrol

  • Diesel

  • Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)

For hybrid vehicles that use petrol and CNG, both fuel tanks must be at least three-quarters full.

Penalties

If you do not comply with the Three-Quarter Tank Rule:

  • You may be issued a composition sum of up to S$500, or

  • Be prosecuted in court

  • You will also be required to make a U-turn at the checkpoint

  • You may also be charged in court for illegal alteration of the fuel measuring equipment if your fuel gauge is tampered with

To avoid delays or penalties, make sure your fuel tank is at least three-quarters full before heading to the land checkpoints.
